Alumni Speak at School of Rhetoric Assemblies
Contributed by Linda Kaiser
Our heartfelt thanks to the alumni who graced the School of Rhetoric Thursday Assemblies with their presence this past year. Your speeches, filled with personal anecdotes, career insights, and the unique benefits of an Eagle Ridge Academy education, have left a lasting impression on our students, inspiring them to dream big and give back to the community.
Kyler Corbo - ERA Class of 2014
Kyler discussed his journey with ERA and how it prepared him for the real world after high school. He relaid how helpful humanities and rhetoric were for him - to understand and carry on meaningful conversations. ERA gave him the structure and critical thinking skills that have helped him advance his career in a corporate environment. He encouraged students to continue searching for their dream job, be bold, and fear not the less traveled path.
Fiona (Herbert) Kaster - ERA Class of 2017
Fiona shed light on the crucial role of women in STEM/STEAM, drawing from her own experiences in the biological sciences. She defined and shared her issues with 'imposter syndrome' and stressed the importance of blending the fine arts and science. Her parting words were about her science-fiction novel, a product of her pandemic experience, which we hope she decides to publish.
Rich Berkley - ERA Class of 2016
Rich shared the ERA coursework and activities that led him to a career as a financial advisor. He discussed how the ERA culture, with its expectations of excellence, helped him instill that in himself. He felt called to give back to the community, so he coaches at ERA in his spare time, encouraging students to be quick to give back and mentor others.
